Is this even legal? This doesn’t seem legal to just bolt in rear facing seats in to a truck bed ala Subaru brat. Seating arrangements must have caused some rifts in the family

huh, actually not too badly done really
fits under the topper, appears to have real ahrnesses, and actually a decent bar over top.
not sure about legal, but seems good. perhaps offroad use only?

might be kosher as long as they all have seat belts.

jeeeezzzzzz how heavy of a trailer was this guy hauling, seems like he needed an older 2500 Suburban/Yukon if he had that much to haul.

I’m going to go with no. But, there is a gray area where you can legally ride in the bed of a truck with no seats/belts in many states so maybe that applies here as well.
But I did find out it is illegal to ride in the bed of a truck in Wisconsin unless it is work related. I’d always heard you only had to be over 16 to ride in the bed.

It is nice to see the cage properly done and not cobbled together

Couldn’t have been too big with only a bumper pull

Fair point. A normal modern Suburban or Yukon most likely could have pulled the weight and not put 4 passengers in a fucking penalty box.

But two less seats in a suburban or Yukon xl.

Much better than the old rear facing bench seat my sister and I used to ride on in the back of my dads pickup when we went off camping. Wasn’t even bolted down.

was in fact just the cooler :D

Also better than the upside down 5-gallon bucket I rode on in the back of my uncle’s cargo van ... amongst all of the unsecured tools ... on the way to go fishing.

I think the rules have changed since we were kids. Back in high school, in Illinois you only had to be belted in if you were under 16, except for the front two seats. Truck beds were a free-for-all.

Class IV hitches go to 10k/14k w/WD. With the Aisin this Ram probably has a Class V XD hitch (2in), with is max 17k on a Ram. A Class V CD (2.5in) goes to 20k, but is not a combo you can do on the 3500 as the frame is only rated to 17k unless you go gooseneck. Since it’s got the Aisin, I bet it’s set up with the XD . Would guess it’s equestrian related vehicle. They make bumper pull (and gooseneck) horse trailers w/slide outs now. They cannot be light - 14k+ GTW(?).

potentially only 1 less, you can find front bench seat ones if you shop older.
More importantly he could have done 2 rear facing custom seats in a suburban, the trunk is large enough. And it has climate controls for back there.
This does not (other than just taking the cap off lol)

man I can’t imagine pulling all that weight at the bumper. Seems crazy.

Maybe it’s the photos, but that looks awfully cramped back there with the topper on.

Good point, I forgot about the bench seat option.

It’s a miracle any of us survived ;)

Oh yeah forgot about the cooler seat. I would bump my head on the cap if I sat on the cooler, but I’d pinch my fingers between the bed bulkhead and the loose bench if I was looking out into the cab of the truck.

back in my day we had a volvo with rear facing seats, so I got a legit seat in the trunk, but my leg room was always consumed by the cooler and other luggage.

I ended up looking for the actual code after finding 2 websites saying it’s illegal period in Wisconsin except for work related reasons. Both of those sites are wrong, the statute provides an exception for trucks that anyone over 16 can ride back there plus there is an exception for anyone under 16 if it’s farm work related, in a parade, or (I’m not shitting you) if they are licensed deer hunters during gun deer season.

LOL! Oh Wisconsin, never change you crazy state!
Except for the deer hunter part, that’s pretty much the exact law we used to have in Illinois.

I don’t know about Utah, but it’s legal to ride in a pickup bed without any protection in AZ. My dad once got screamed at in San Diego for driving us around in the bed. The cop let him off with a very stern warning after realizing we were from Arizona.
